GET TO KNOW ME

LEAVE YOUR MARK

The summer of 2007 was a pretty eye opening time for me. I was 12 years old and going through so many self discoveries. Number 1: I was going into middle school, which meant I was “mature” and could upgrade from Limited Too to Aeropostale apparel. Number 2: My parents started letting me pick out my own clothing, style my own hair, and wear a little makeup. Number 3 (and most important): I discovered my interest in philanthropy and entrepreneurship. Let me explain.

I used to be obsessed with Girl Up, an online magazine to teach girls globally to refine their skills, create their own voice, and become leaders in their community. As a young girl creating my own voice, I found it inspiring to read about girls my age making a difference in their community. I wanted to make a difference too, but I’ve always been a little shy and communicating was sometimes a struggle. It wasn’t until high school that my passion for service blossomed. I joined many service clubs, such as key club, caring hands, friendship club, and many more! Every time I volunteered, it brought me joy to make someone smile, which helped me open up and learn to express myself with my words. So when I went off to college, I took these skills further and became a communications major and leader within my college community.

My sophomore year, I decided to major in digital media with a minor public relations. I joined Kappa Delta, a sorority that promotes confidence, brings awareness to child abuse, and supports Girl Scouts of America. I volunteered to help plan events, fundraise, and clean up the community. These experiences gave me the confidence to become a leader within Greek life. I served as Vice President of Communications for Panhellenic, a board that governs all nine sororities on campus. My love for event planning and storytelling through social media grew during that time in my life.

Now 16 years later, I’m still that little girl with a dream to make a difference. After college, I became a manager in retail to hone in my marketing, business, and leadership skills. Along with that, I started a YouTube channel to inspire young adults to be their best self through self care, health, and beauty. However, after three years in retail, I realized that there’s limitations and not much room to grow. I like interacting with customers, but I found myself longing to be more behind the scenes in the digital marketing field. So I enrolled in a masters in communications management at USC to refine my skills and propel me forward into the corporate space. I want to continue to be a leader and use my creativity, but on a larger scale. I want to become a figure, my 12 year old self would look up to and help other girls find their own voice, like I did.
